Preparation Guidance

Before application, it's essential to prepare your surfaces adequately to achieve the best results. When working with new wood, allow it to weather for six weeks to wash away previous coatings. After that, lightly sand the surface to smooth out any fibers, and wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth dampened with methylated spirit.

For old wood, sand down any loose paint to provide a smooth surface. Clean off dirt or grease with white spirit and ensure any mould or algae is removed. Brick and stone should be dusted off before painting, while terracotta surfaces may require sanding to remove any glaze.

Whenever you are painting metal, ensure you prime the surface first; use grey primer for darker colours and white for lighter shades.

Application Instructions

Before starting, thoroughly stir the paint to ensure the colour pigments are well mixed. It's a good idea to test the colour on a small, hidden area before applying the first coat. Apply the paint in the direction of the wood grain for the best finish.

To achieve optimal coverage, three coats are recommended. Wait four hours between coats, and for smooth surfaces, lightly sand between the second and third coats.
