Lights.co Original 1227 Designer Table Lamp by Anglepoise® The Original 1227 table lamp, designed in 1933/34 by George Carwardine – an industrial designer who originally worked in the automotive industry – became the model for spring-loaded lamps thanks to its constant-tension spring mechanism, which uses three springs to enable the mobility of this versatile work light. But that’s not all: this lamp, with its functionally and visually versatile design, has, over time, become a design icon, frequently featured as a prop in films and advertising. Thanks to its various adjustment options, the Original 1227 table lamp is ideally suited as a light source for a writing or work desk. Fitted with an E27 socket: the lamp is supplied with an energy-efficient LED bulb. Please note: to ensure the Original 1227 table lamp remains well-balanced, the bulb used must weigh between 25 and 60 g. George Carwardine (1887–1948) created a design classic in the Original 1227 table lamp, the licence for which he sold to the firm Terry & Sons, who had previously supplied the springs for his design. In 1993, a descendant of the Terry family – Ray Terry – invested a great deal of money in the further development of the Original 1227 table lamp, which had originally been manufactured for factory workshops.
