PoE splitters are used whenever a surveillance camera, access point or other device is to be powered only via the data line, but the device is not PoE capable. The network and PoE signals incoming via the LAN cable are separated from the splitter and the PoE signal is output separately from the network signal via the DC jack. While only the Ethernet signal is present on the RJ45 socket, the PoE signal can be output in levels of 5, 9 or 12 volts via a separate socket. The current will change depending on the selected level as follows: 2 amps at 5 volts / 2 amps at 9 volts / 2 amps at 12 volts. The PoE splitter complies with Gigabit Ethernet standard with up to 1 Gbps and can be used with Windows, Mac OS, Linux and Sun regardless of operating system.
