Sévérine is a young, beautiful, and affluent bourgeois woman married to Dr. Pierre Serizy, an attractive and loving surgeon with whom she is unable to have satisfactory sexual relations. Haunted by a troubled past and obsessed by her ghosts, including a paternal figure who abused her, Sévérine´s frigidity in her marriage stands in stark contrast to her vivid and disturbing masochistic fantasies.
