Astisendo Grupo Editorial El Otro Mar Comic. Following in Balbo´s FootstepsAlfonso Zapico, the recent National Comic Award winner for Dublinés, embarks on a physical journey to Panama, following in the footsteps of Vasco Núñez de Balboa and his quest for the Pacific Ocean, exactly 500 years later. In 1500, an Extremaduran nobleman arrives on the shores of America. He is an adventurer, like so many others, who enriches himself only to be ruined soon after. He travels as a stowaway to Tierra Firme (the Isthmus of Panama), fights, conspires, and destroys to build new cities. He earns the title of governor of Veragua and one day, this Vasco Núñez de Balboa hears a fabulous story from an indigenous cacique: the story of the other sea.According to the Kuna Indian, south of the mountains of the Darién jungle, there existed an immense ocean, unknown to the white man, on whose shores lived powerful tribes rich in gold and precious metals.Who knows if it was ambition, greed, or madness that drove those men to venture into that inhospitable province.Who knows what Vasco Núñez de Balboa really experienced during those days of uncertainty and hardship. The story of what could have been is what Alfonso Zapico has recreated in comic form - the latest National Comic Award winner with Dublinés - after the Asturian author himself documented the experience in situ, after crossing the Atlantic to travel through a jungle area in Panama during the second half of March this year on the expedition organized by the Mare Australe Foundation, the same route that Núñez de Balboa and his men followed in 1513.Zapico made a kind of humid Camino de Santiago in very demanding conditions over 110 kilometers through the landscapes of the Darién natural park, following in the footsteps of Vasco Núñez de Balboa until he found that other sea, the Pacific Ocean. tradeinn Techinn
