The Dog in the Manger (El Perro del Hortelano) | Blu-ray EditionStep into the lavish and tumultuous world of 17th-century Spain with Pilar Miró´s Goya Award-winning masterpiece, *The Dog in the Manger* (El Perro del Hortelano), now available in a stunning Blu-ray edition. This definitive high-definition presentation allows you to experience the passion, wit, and drama of Lope de Veg´s classic play as if you were seeing it for the first time. The vibrant colors, intricate period costumes, and breathtaking cinematography are rendered with exceptional clarity, bringing every subtle glance and whispered secret to life with unparalleled visual and auditory fidelity. At the heart of the story is the formidable Diana (a mesmerizing Emma Suárez), the Countess of Belflor. She is a woman far ahead of her time: young, attractive, imaginative, perceptive, impulsive, enterprising, and fiercely intelligent. This masterful portrayal shatters the archetype of the submissive and obedient female character often found in classic comedy. Diana is a complex and powerful figure, wrestling with the constraints of her noble station and the desires of her own heart. She is a victim of the same patriarchal order she openly rebels against, a woman who must navigate a treacherous path between honor and love.Diana finds herself consumed by an impossible passion for her handsome secretary, Teodoro (Carmelo Gómez). The complication? Teodoro is already engaged to the lovely Marcela (Ana Duato), one of the Countess´s own ladies-in-waiting. What follows is a captivating and torturous game of love, jealousy, and social maneuvering, perfectly embodying the film´s title—the proverbial dog in the manger who neither eats nor lets others eat. Dian´s repressed desire for a man so far beneath her social standing forces her to choose between the nobility of blood and the nobility of feeling. To save her destiny as a woman and pursue her heart, she must resort to fiction, deception, and a grand lie that could secure her happiness or lead to her ruin. This essential release for any fan of world cinema and Spanish classics is more than just a film, it is a powerful exploration of class, desire, and female agency. Witness how Dian´s internal struggle culminates in a daring plan, accepting a secret deception to preserve her honor even as it paradoxically degrades it. It is a timeless tale of repressed passion achieving its object through sheer force of will, making for an unforgettable cinematic experience.Attributes:* Blu-ray* SpanishTechnical Specifications:* Original Title: El Perro del Hortelano* Subtitles: English, Spanish for the hearing impaired* Format: Blu-ray* Aspect Ratio: 1.85:1 Widescreen* Runtime: Approximately 109 Minutes* Category: Fan zone* Subcategory: DVD & Blu-ray. tradeinn Techinn
