EXO TERRA Bio Drain Terrarium Draining Substrate 2kg – The Foundation for a Healthy VivariumCreate the ultimate thriving environment for your reptiles and amphibians with the EXO TERRA Bio Drain Terrarium Draining Substrate. This 2kg bag provides the essential foundation for any natural, planted, or bioactive terrarium setup. Expertly designed for tropical and rainforest habitats, this substrate is the first and most critical step in establishing a balanced, self-sustaining ecosystem that promotes the health and well-being of your pets. The primary function of the Bio Drain substrate is to prevent soil waterlogging. In a closed terrarium environment, excess water from misting or watering can saturate the top substrate, leading to a lack of oxygen, root rot in live plants, and the proliferation of harmful anaerobic bacteria. This can create foul odours and an unhealthy environment for your animals. The EXO TERRA Bio Drain substrate creates a vital drainage layer at the bottom of the terrarium, allowing excess water to pass through the topsoil and collect in a safe, contained area, keeping the main substrate layer perfectly moist but never saturated.Key Benefits:* Prevents Waterlogged Conditions: Its unique structure creates an air-filled cavity that allows for exceptional water drainage, protecting live plant roots from rot and preventing the substrate from becoming a muddy, unhealthy mess.* Establishes a Natural Water Table: The collected water in the drainage layer acts as a natural aquifer or water table. This significantly increases the overall air humidity within the terrarium, which is crucial for many tropical and forest-dwelling species. It also provides a water source that plant roots can access as needed.* Promotes a Healthy, Odour-Free Habitat: By preventing anaerobic conditions, the Bio Drain substrate helps to eliminate foul smells and supports the growth of beneficial microorganisms, contributing to a clean and balanced micro-ecosystem.* Ideal for Bioactive and Planted Setups: It is the perfect base layer for creating complex, multi-layered bioactive terrariums. It provides the stability and drainage necessary for lush plant growth and the long-term success of your clean-up crew (isopods and springtails).* Durable and Long-Lasting: As a non-decomposing material, this substrate will not break down, rot, or compact over time, ensuring consistent and reliable drainage for the life of your terrarium setup.Main Features:* Highly Porous Structure: The substrate consists of lightweight, porous granules that provide an excellent surface area for beneficial nitrifying bacteria to colonize, further contributing to a clean and healthy environment.* Optimised Granule Size: The irregular shape and size of the granules create significant voids, ensuring unimpeded water flow and excellent aeration at the base of your terrarium. To use, simply spread an even layer of the EXO TERRA Bio Drain substrate across the bottom of your terrarium. For optimal performance and to prevent the top substrate from mixing with the drainage layer, it is highly recommended to place the EXO TERRA Bio Drain Mesh separator on top of the Bio Drain substrate before adding your primary terrarium soil.Technical Specifications:* Product Name: Exo Terra Bio Drain Terrarium Draining Substrate* Weight: 2 kg (4.4 lbs)* Attributes: Reptiles, Substrates* Application: Base drainage layer for tropical, planted, and bioactive terrariums/vivariums.Ex bio drain terrarium bio draining subs.Bio drain 2kg terrarium draining mesh.Pet supplies.Aquariums and terrariums.Invest in the EXO TERRA Bio Drain substrate and take the first step towards building a beautiful, healthy, and low-maintenance habitat that mimics nature and allows your cherished pets to thrive. tradeinn Bricoinn
