Indie single cask Islay whisky, 12 years old, from The Exclusive Malts. A refill hogshead release limited to 317 bottles, bottled at natural cask strength 56.2% ABV. Rich peat, marmite malt, medicinal notes; great neat or with a splash of water. Laphroaig The Exclusive Malts Single Cask #3408 12 year old 56.2% ABV Nose: Tarry, oily maritime nose: fishing ropes and lime pickle, with sooty gooseberry, inky iodine and the unmistakable Laphroaig phenolic grip. Herbal menthol lifts the peat, mingling with coal-tar smoke over muddy heather. Palate: Chocolate lime sweets meet sooty gooseberry and salted lime, with white pepper and ripe pear weaving through peat-fire smoke. Finish: Tarry liquorice, sooty-peppery peat smoke, limes in rock pools, medicinal and menthol like, salted popcorn on a fishing trawler, some late herbal lozenge like note on a long finish.
