Astisendo Grupo Editorial Maria Cumple 20 Años Spanish Comic. Mari´s Gaze, eight years later Miguel Gallardo returns to the universe of Maria and her relationship with the world, recounting the things that remain the same and those that have changed since the publication of Maria and I. Seven and a half years after the publication of Maria and I, Miguel Gallardo once again shows us the perspective of his daughter, now in her twenties, and her relationship with the world.Maria still lives in the Canary Islands, a 3-hour flight from Barcelona, where her father lives. They no longer go on vacation to a resort because we´re tired of the guiris. Now we spend the summer in Barcelona and the Costa Brava, says Miguel Gallardo, amused. This is a diary of the things they do and that happen to them during that month and a half of summer that they are together: We still laugh a lot, make lists and listen to the music that Maria likes.Maria has ASD (autism spectrum disorder) and continues to have an infectious smile and a special sense of humor. It´s been 8 years since I wrote and drew Maria and I.Maria has grown a lot, some things have changed, but others remain the same, this book talks about all those things and the future, says Miguel Gallardo.Since its publication, Maria and I has become a phenomenon. It has already sold around 20.000 copies of the Spanish edition alone, has been published in 9 other languages (Russian, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Polish, Catalan, Galician and Basque), won the Catalan National Comic Award and has a celebrated film version directed by Félix Fernández de Castro. Its publication has led Miguel Gallardo to give talks that shed light on autism throughout much of the world, and it is now, when Maria turns 20, that he returns to show the evolution of her gaze. The same drawings that help Maria process the world through clarity and synthesis serve to express her emotions to those who do not understand how the mind of someone who desperately needs to control the environment works.A delightful book.A call for understanding towards the particular sensitivity of these people.Antonio Lozano, La Vanguardia. tradeinn Techinn
