An 'Err' warning appears on the screen when the unit is held in a position it cannot read, which stops a wrong number reaching your saw. MAGNETIC BASE HOLDS IT ON STEEL HANDS-FREE: The bottom face carries the magnet, so the gauge stays put on a saw table, a steel beam or a wheel hub while both of your hands stay on the work, and the V-groove machined into that same face straddles round pipe and bar stock instead of rocking on it. VERTICAL USE ONLY, SINGLE-AXIS TILT SENSOR: This is a single-axis tilt box, so stand it upright against the saw blade, on the pipe run, against the rafter or on the mitre fence and take the reading in that position. Laying the unit flat on a bench top returns an incorrect reading rather than a true horizontal angle, so keep a spirit level to hand for flat work. NOTE: it is a single-axis tilt box and is designed for vertical placement only (cannot be laid flat). Or, there would be error.
