ONE TESTER FOR NETWORK AND PHONE LINES - The shared port takes RJ45 network leads and RJ11 telephone leads, in 2P, 4P, 6P and 8P wiring, shielded or unshielded. It walks the eight cores plus the ground and shows you open circuits, shorts and crossed pairs, so a dead socket gets narrowed down to a specific core rather than a shrug. Covers CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6 and CAT6A runs and standard phone lines. SPLIT MASTER AND REMOTE, SO ONE PERSON CAN TEST A WHOLE RUN - The two halves of the tester clip together for bench work and pull apart for everything else. Leave the remote on the wall plate at one end, walk the master to the patch panel at the other, and read the result yourself instead of shouting down a corridor. Both units carry the same 1 to 8 plus G indicators, so the fault reads the same at either end. FAST AND SLOW LED MODES FOR READING THE SEQUENCE - The switch gives you OFF, FAST and SLOW. Fast runs the cycle quickly for a straight pass or fail on a known-good lead; slow runs the same cycle at a pace you can actually follow, which matters when you are trying to spot a single missing number. On a good cable the 1 to 8 lights cycle in order at both ends. If core 3 is broken, light 3 stays dark on the master and on the remote, and that is your answer. LIVE DETECTION UP TO 60V, NO NEED TO KILL THE LINE FIRST - The tester is rated to 60V, so a phone or network line can be checked while it is still connected rather than unplugged, traced and plugged back in. Useful when you are working through a patch panel or a wall of sockets and want to see status in real time instead of taking the whole run down to test one lead. IN THE BOX AND WHAT IT WILL NOT DO - You get the master unit, the remote unit, two AAA batteries and a manual, so it works out of the box rather than after a trip to the shop. Each half is 9.6 x 6 x 2.4cm and drops into a pocket. This is a continuity and wiring tester: it finds breaks, shorts and crossed pairs, but it does not measure cable length, link speed or certify a run to a standard.
