Amazon 3/8-24 UNF THREAD AT ONE END, SO-239 SOCKET AT THE OTHER: This adaptor carries the antenna thread on one end and the coaxial socket on the other, so a whip with a 3/8-24 UNF thread mates with that end while the PL-259 plug on your coax lead screws into the SO-239 socket. Check that direction and your thread size before you order, because both ends are fixed standards here, and neither of them steps up or down to another thread or another connector. FOUR PIECES, COUNTED OFF THE EXPLODED VIEW: The adaptor comes apart into four pieces, which are the metal body with a white insulating washer seated on its centre stud, the cap that carries the 3/8-24 UNF antenna thread, a black insulating washer with a raised collar, and a serrated lock washer. Both insulating washers arrive with the adaptor, so nothing has to be sourced separately to keep the centre stud clear of the bracket, which is the step buyers most often get wrong on a stud mount. FITS ANY 1/2 INCH HOLE AND TIGHTENS WITH A SPANNER: The body is cut for a 1/2 inch hole, a common size on wing, boot lip, bull bar and roof rack mounting points on vans, 4x4s and overland rigs, and the adaptor gives you two hex flats so an ordinary spanner does the work instead of a special tool. Nothing is soldered and nothing is rewired, because the antenna screws onto the thread and the coax screws into the socket. 50 MM LONG AND SMALL ENOUGH FOR A FIELD KIT: The adaptor measures 50 mm end to end on the dimension drawing, about the length of a thumb joint, so it sits in tight mounting points and travels with a spare whip rather than staying in the shed. The pack holds one adaptor in silver metal, and the body is machined with two hex flats so a spanner has something to grip when you pull the joint up tight. WHAT THIS PART IS NOT: This is a mechanical adaptor and not a test instrument, so it does not measure SWR, power or frequency, and no impedance, power or frequency rating is published for it in the listing or on the pack panel. It is cut for a 1/2 inch hole only, so a 5/8 inch hole needs a different mount. No antenna and no coax lead are supplied with it, the plating grade is not stated anywhere, and no waterproof rating is claimed, so long exposure to salt spray remains untested.
