Wonderfully rich, mouth-enveloping and lightly syrupy, finishing long with hints of mint leaf and black tea CRAFTSMANSHIP & ORIGIN: Made by Distillerie Merlet & Fils in Saint-Sauvant (Saintonge, Charentes) as a macerated liqueur from Noir de Bourgogne blackcurrants grown locally. Merlet’s Crème de Cassis carries the “Cassis de Saintonge” GI HERITAGE IN A BOTTLE: The Merlet family has distilled in Saint-Sauvant since 1850. In 1973, Gilles Merlet began growing blackcurrants in Saintonge to diversify the family farm, and by 1983 the first bottles under the Merlet name were Crème de Cassis PERFECT SERVE: Chill well. For a classic Kir, add 15ml cassis to a wine glass, top with 100ml crisp dry white wine and stir gently; for a Kir Royale, top with Champagne. Garnish with a lemon twist or a few berries; also lovely over ice cream
