Having a boot full of useless little bottles for every single part of the car gets you nowhere. The Interior and Exterior Cleaner from Motorrevive, in the 500 ml format, is the bad-tempered Swiss army knife that was missing: it works on plastics, wheels, bodywork, leather, fabric, engine and whatever else you throw at it. The only exception is the glass, which calls for a dedicated glass cleaner. Its formula wipes out the mud outside and the grime inside with one and the same product, so the wash stops being a relay race between bottles. You start with the filthy wheels, carry on with the bodywork and finish on the dried-out dashboard, without changing bottle or cloth. The finish is dry and not sticky in the slightest, and it also blocks UV rays so the sun does not bake the materials. That means it does more than clean: it leaves a layer that slows down the fading and cracking of the plastics, which is what turns a dark interior into a grey surface after a few summers. It comes with a Flairosol trigger, a clever modern touch that fires a fine, continuous mist. A single squeeze covers half a surface without soaking anything, the product spreads evenly and is used far more efficiently than with a conventional sprayer, which throws out jets you then have to spread by hand. Using it is instant. Squeeze the trigger over the area to be smartened up and go over it with a clean microfibre cloth to pick up the dirt and leave the surface spotless and dry to the touch. If the area has taken a real beating, repeat the process without hesitation. That said, keep the product away from the glass and the sat nav screens, which have their own dedicated products.
