The Atlas cedar is native to North Africa. In the distant past, it grew naturally in Europe. It is very cold-resistant and is taller and thinner than the cedar of Lebanon. Its needles are bluish, its branches are ascending and shorter than those of other cedars; its bark is light gray and cracks with age; its cones are 6 cm long, with a small hollow in the center. Instructions for use For massage, apply a few drops diluted in a vegetable oil locally. Pharmaceutical advice • May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. • May cause an allergic skin reaction. • Keep out of reach of children. Do not apply undiluted to skin. • IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician. DO NOT induce vomiting. • IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of soap and water. • Keep away from heat and light. • Consult package insert. In the absence of helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum) for treating swelling and bruising, Atlas cedarwood can be used effectively, although not as dramatically: 3 drops of Atlas cedarwood essential oil + 3 drops of tamanu oil. Apply several times every hour after the injury, then 4 times daily until improvement is observed.
