Application Guidelines

Before using Ronseal Garden Paint, ensure the temperature is above 10°C and that no rain is forecasted. The paint is not suitable for decking or plastic surfaces.

# Surface Preparation

- New Wood: Allow the wood to weather for six weeks to ensure all previous coatings have washed away. Lightly sand the surface to remove splinters, then wipe with a lint-free cloth dampened slightly with methylated spirit.

- Old Wood: Sand down old wood to remove loose paint and create a smooth surface. Clean the area with white spirit to eliminate dirt and grease. For severely deteriorated areas, cleaning off mould or algae is necessary, and rotten wood must be repaired or removed.

- Brick or Stone: Dust and debris should be brushed away for proper adhesion of the paint.

- Terracotta: Remove any glaze by sanding until water no longer beads on the surface.

- Metal: Primer is recommended prior to painting—the choice of grey or white primer depends on the desired paint colour.

# Painting Process

Stir the paint thoroughly to ensure an even blend of pigments. It is advisable to test the colour on a small, hidden area before committing to the full application. For wood surfaces, apply the paint in the direction of the grain. It is crucial to apply three coats for optimal coverage, with a drying time of four hours between coats. A light sand between the second and third coats will enhance the final smoothness.

Maintenance

To prolong the life of your painted surfaces, regular cleaning is essential. Brushes used in application can be cleaned with warm, soapy water. If the finish begins to wear, a fresh coat of Ronseal Garden Paint can restore its vibrancy and protective qualities.
