Surface Preparation

Proper preparation is crucial for the best results, and different surfaces require specific treatments:

- New Wood: Allow new wood to weather for six weeks before sanding to remove fibres. Wipe with a damp lint-free cloth using methylated spirit.

- Old Wood: Sand old, painted wood to eliminate loose paint and dirt, then wipe down with white spirit. Remove any mould or algae, and replace rotten wood if necessary.

- Brick and Stone: Brush off dust and debris before application to ensure a clean surface.

- Terracotta: Sand away any glaze, applying water to check if it beads; continue sanding until it no longer does.

- Metal: Prime the surface with the appropriate primer beforehand—grey for dark colours and white for lighter shades.

Application and Maintenance

Before starting, stir the paint thoroughly and test on a hidden patch to confirm satisfaction with the colour. When applying, work in the direction of the wood grain for best results. For optimal coverage and protection, three coats are recommended. Lightly sand between the second and third coats on smooth surfaces.
