Preparation Instructions
# Preparing New Wood
New wood should weather for six weeks to remove all coatings. After this period, sand lightly to remove splinters and excess fibres, then wipe with a slightly damp lint-free cloth treated with methylated spirit.
# Preparing Old Garden Wood
For previously painted or weathered wood, quickly sand to remove loose paint and create a smooth surface. Clean it with white spirit to eliminate grease and dirt. Any mould or algae needs to be removed, and rotten wood should either be replaced or treated.
# Preparing Other Surfaces
- Brick or Stone: Brush away any dust and debris before painting.
- Terracotta: Sand the surface until the glaze is removed, ensuring water does not bead on the surface.
- Metal: Prime the surface with a grey primer for darker colours or a white primer for lighter ones before applying the Garden Paint.
Application Process
Begin by stirring the paint thoroughly to mix colour pigments. It’s advisable to test the colour on a small, discreet area first. When painting wood, always brush in the direction of the grain. After applying the first coat, allow it to dry for four hours before adding a second coat; for optimal colour and protection, three coats are recommended. If painting on a smooth surface, lightly sand between the second and third coats.
Aftercare and Maintenance
To maintain the appearance and longevity of the paint, regularly clean painted surfaces and keep furniture tidy. Should the finish start to look worn, simply reapply a fresh coat to rejuvenate the colour and protection offered by Ronseal Garden Paint.
Experience the vibrant transformation of your garden with Ronseal Garden Paint—a durable solution that promises long-lasting beauty and protection for all your outdoor surfaces.
