Preparation

Before applying Ronseal Garden Paint, ensure the area is clean and weather conditions are suitable (preferably above 10°C without rain forecasted).

- For New Wood: Allow the wood to weather for six weeks, then lightly sand and wipe with a lint-free cloth dampened with methylated spirit.

- For Old Wood: Sand down to remove loose paint and grime, using white spirit to clean the surface. Remove mould, algae, and any rotten wood as necessary.

- For Brick or Stone: Brush away dust and ensure it’s clean before painting.

- For Terracotta: Sand the surface until the glaze is fully removed, testing with water to confirm.

- For Metal: A primer is essential; grey for dark colours and white for light shades.

Once prepared, stir the paint thoroughly, test the colour on a hidden patch, and apply the first coat in the direction of the wood grain for wooden surfaces. Allow to dry for four hours before applying additional coats. For the best finish, lightly sand between the second and third coats.
