Utilising a new water-based Linseed Oil technology, this decking oil colours and waterproofs your deck in one straightforward application. It creates a more authentic look for your deck, allowing the wood's natural beauty to shine through. The oil becomes rainproof in just 90 minutes, making it ideal for quick applications, and you can recoat after just 4 hours.
Preparation for Application
Proper preparation is crucial for optimal results.
- Untreated, Weathered Decking: For untreated, grey, and weathered wood, we recommend using Ronseal Decking Restorer. This product restores the wood’s natural colour and provides a solid base for effective oil penetration.
- Previously Finished Decking: Before applying the oil, it is essential to clean the deck using Ronseal Decking Cleaner and Reviver. This step removes dust, grease, oil, mildew, algae, and other contaminants. Ensure you remove any loose or flaking coatings entirely to avoid patchiness. If you are applying a contrasting colour, it’s advisable to strip any previous finishes using Ronseal Decking Stripper. Don’t forget to protect cut ends with Ronseal Decking End Grain Preserver.
- New Wood: Allow new decking to weather naturally for approximately six months. This process helps the pre-treatment to erode, which aids in the stain's penetration and adhesion. Clean the deck thoroughly with Ronseal Decking Cleaner and Reviver using a scrubbing brush to open the wood pores. After cleaning, rinse the deck thoroughly with clean water, ideally using a pressure washer. Make sure the deck is completely dry before applying any oil. You can test the effectiveness of the cleaning by splashing water on the deck; if beading occurs, re-clean and retest before oil application.

The shade label on the product indicates an approximate colour, but it’s advisable to test a small area first. The final colour may vary due to factors such as texture, grain, porosity, wood type, and any previous treatments.
