It will not destroy attractive patina that has been acquired due to age. Apply the cleaner with a soft cloth or if the wood is very dirty with 000 steel wool. If the wood is open grained use a coarser grade of steel wool. Wipe the surface with a clean rag or kitchen towel whilst the surface is still wet otherwise the cleaner will evaporate redepositing the wax and dirt on the furniture.
