BASEC Approved 6242Y (6242YH) twin and earth cable made to BS 6004 — two stranded plain-copper 4mm² cores (brown / blue), 1.5mm² bare copper earth (fit green/yellow sleeving), grey PVC sheath, 300/500V. A commonly used UK size for higher-load radial, immersion-heater and selected cooker circuits. Circuit design, protective-device selection and installation must comply with BS 7671 and be completed by a competent person. Rated up to 37A clipped direct (BS 7671 reference method C). Actual capacity depends on installation method, grouping, insulation and run length — always check before sizing a circuit.
