Up to three players independently control one of the three main characters. In Dual Screen Spectator Mode, a player that is not controlling a character can aid with spells and microphone input. Donkey uses Merlin's Magic Wand to remotely aid the playable characters with humorous spells. Players use the built-in Nintendo DS microphone to activate select magical spells and abilities such as Artie's ability to float across water. Innovative use of the touch screen allows characters' movements to be enhanced through sweeping strokes of the stylus.
