Tonys TipsThe Standard Cap for 23 Litre / 5 Gallon Carboy is an Essential airlock holding cap to keep the brew free of external contamination please check the diameter of your Carboy neck to ensure a safe fit, nothing worse than a too loose, or too tight cap! I have in the past used a rubber bung for Standard 1 Gallon glass Demijohns but they sit a bit too low in the aperture and can easily push through altogether into the drink! . . . . then you're scuppered as it's impossible to withdraw it without spending all Sunday attempting to manipulate it out with a long barbed hook gaffa taped to a long knitting needle, (yes . . . . been there!) which might result in smashing the Carboy in desperation! the alternative is to just leave it in, with the hope it might rot away (not recommended - because it won't rot at all, no matter how rough your Grog is!)
