Victron Energy galvanic insulator prevents electrolytic corrosion It blocks the low voltage DC currents that are pntrating in your boat through the ground wire of the dock power. These currents can cause corrosion of the submerged metals of the boat, such as hull, propeller, axis, etc The Victron Energy galvanic insulator has two diodes connected in antiparallel. When connected in this way, the diodes allow current to pass in both directions beyond a certain threshold voltage of about 1.4 Vdc The insulator is installed directly behind the 230 V connection of your boat. The forward voltage of the galvanic insulator is greater than the potential difference between the metals. Consequently, this voltage does not allow conduction and the galvanic insulator therefore prevents any electrolytic current However, if there is an error voltage (higher) in the AC circuit, the diodes will let the current pass and the rsidual current device will cut off the circuit
