Amazon WILJA SECOND EARLY SEED POTATOES: Wilja potatoes are an excellent choice of potato not only because it is versatile but because of its unique taste. Wilja tastes of real potato and takes on some of the characteristics of the soil in which it is grown – great for growers who love the "earthy" taste in this fine vegetable. Harvest Second Early varieties 13 – 15 weeks after planting for best results, with traditional planting time being March – April. Excellent resistance to scab and slugs. PERFECT FOR MAKING CRISPY ROASTIES, CHIPS, JACKETS OR BOILED POTATOES: Potatoes are a wonderful staple in our diets, but the variety really does make all the difference. The flesh has a medium dry texture making this an excellent all-round potato for roasties, jackets, baked or boiling potatoes as they are great for crispy skins. One of this variety's enduring advantages is that it holds its shape well even when boiled. Has a lovely "earthiness" in taste. Yellow fleshed and yellow skinned. EASY TO PLANT: When planting in the ground, set your tubers 10 inches apart so they have space to grow; for planting in limited outdoor space at home, put 3 tubers in a 45-litre planting bag. Second Early varieties benefit from a nitrogenous fertiliser when you dig them up. Choose a place in the garden which has not been used to grow garlic, onions, shallots or leeks for at least two years. The soil should be well drained and fertilizer or manure can be added to the area to boost growth. SEED POTATOES FROM THE SEED POTATO EXPERTS: Before planting your seed potatoes, we recommend “chitting” – allowing the potatoes to sprout – 6 weeks beforehand. Once your tubers have started to sprout, they are ready to be planted ahead of a delicious harvest. Keep your seed potatoes out of extreme weather conditions and temperature changes prior to planting to ensure strong potatoes. Dunk each tuber in water prior to planting. FROM THE GROUND UPWARDS – SEED POTATOES GROWN IN SCOTLAND SINCE 1895: Jamieson Brothers were established in 1895 where we began selling our potatoes in 50kg bags on a horse and cart. Our seed potatoes are UK grown and still hand sorted in Scotland. From seed to plate, Jamieson Brothers sees the seed potatoes through the entire harvest. We ship to your doorstep so you can enjoy growing seed potatoes in your home, allotment, or farm.
