1988 Edward Lear, Verse for Children Presentation Pack Printed No. 193 (PP167) - Royal Mail Stamps Issued by the Royal Mail on 6th September 1988. This pack contains four mint stamps and commemorates 100 years since the death of the prolific artist and writer, Edward Lear. Edward Lear was born on 12 May 1812, the twentieth of 21 children. He was Queen Victoria's drawing master. Ruskin put Lear's 'Book of Nonsense' at the top of his list of one hundred contemporary titles. He died at San Remo on 30 January 1888. This pack details Lear's fine ornithological draughtmanship, alongside the famous Nonsense books and songs, such as the Owl and the Pussy-cat. Contains many examples of his illustrations, watercolours and sketches. Ideal as a gift or keepsake.
