The wine is a blend of full-bodied wines, undergoing a four-year aging process in large wooden vats before being bottled without filtration. After bottling, Fonseca Crusted is cellared for an additional three years before being released for sale, allowing for further maturation. As the name suggests, the wine forms a natural sediment or "crust" in the bottle, requiring decanting before serving to separate the sediment from the liquid. Fonseca Crusted is sourced from the top-quality Cima Corgo area of the Douro Valley, and it is produced in limited quantities, showcasing its exceptional quality and unique characteristics. Fonseca Crusted Port is a rare and traditional style of Port wine produced by Fonseca, one of the few firms dedicated to its continued production.
