Lamp Masters
The Semi pendant in Ø47 Matte White is a distinctive lamp that consists of two quarter-circles with their backs against each other. The characteristically arched and enamelled metal shade creates a diffuse light that is ideal for use over your dining table or kitchen table, where you need extra work light. The unique and timeless appearance of the Semi pendant – not to mention its range of colours and sizes – makes it versatile and well-suited for private and public spaces alike.
Semi was designed in 1968 as a product of the creative partnership between Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup. It was manufactured in response to the soft and organic shapes of the so-called Cosy Era that dominated the Danish design landscape at the time. Bonderup and Thorup both wanted to manufacture a lamp that offered clean, sharp lines and a geometric shape. Their design was entered into a competition at the Royal Danish Academy of Architecture, where it won first prize.
The pendant became hugely successful in the 1980s, becoming the best-selling Danish design at one point. It even achieved international recognition that elevated its status to iconic.

Lights.coClassic Semi pendant light – timeless light source with a harmonious design The Semi pendant light was designed by Danish designers Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup. They created a light source that stands out thanks to its classic shape and atmospheric lighting effect, making Semi ideal for general room lighting and especially for use above a table. The harmonious design with its concave, upward-tapered shape can be combined with many different interior styles. The two designers, Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup, have been working together since graduating from the Danish School of Architecture in 1969. They initially joined the office of architect Henning Larsen. Since then, Bonderup and Thorup have designed clocks and shop interiors for Georg Jensen and the Arcticum Museum (Finland), among other things, and were responsible for the harbour facilities in Helsingør, from urban planning to the ferry terminal.
