With the 24 Karat Blau, Ingo Maurer has created a Meisterwerke that utilises the physical laws of light refraction to create a fascinating light effect. Four acrylic glass panels arranged in a Karree - all handmade - form the lampshade of the pendant light. Real gold leaf has been moulded into the acrylic panels and beaten to a wafer-thin thickness. the gold leaf is 1/10,000 mm thin, which corresponds to 1,000 atomic layers. This is where physics comes into play. The light generated inside the light shines outwards between the molecules as short-wave blue light, while yellow-gold light is reflected inwards. The outer form of the light can be changed as desired, as each acrylic plate has four holes that can be used to attach it to the crossbar that forms the Basis of the light. This allows absolute symmetry, but also deliberate asymmetry, to be expressed with 24 carat blue by aligning the plates either at right angles to each other or completely arbitrarily.
