In 1990, to celebrate its 125th Anniversary, the Distillery released a 1 liter commemorative bottle filled with 86 proof whiskey. Sold in a box and with a numbered hang tag that could be registered with the Distillery, this bottle honors the hard work that has gone into the Distillery’s long history of success. Before the Civil War, distilleries were not required to register with the federal government. But in 1866, Congress passed legislation that required registration. Mr. Jack, being the forward-thinking man he was, made sure he was first in line, and that’s why the Jack Daniel Distillery is still listed in the federal record books as “Distillery No. 1.” This 1L decanter, released in 1990, celebrates the 125th Anniversary of “America’s Oldest Registered Distillery” and pays tribute to its founder. Although Jack registered his Distillery in 1866, he had actually purchased it several years earlier in 1859 from his friend and former employer Dan Call.
