The 0.5 mm fine medium point on this pen is a good balance between the 0.7 mm thicker point, which is a standard Western European thickness for a medium point, and the 0.38 mm fine point. The 0.5 mm tip is ideal for most types of paper and ink because a 0.7 mm tip is often too thick and can lead to excessive ink bleeding on lower quality papers, and 0.38 mm is often too thin, unless you are doing very detailed writing, in fact 0.38 mm is often called the "financial tip" as it allows it to be used for filling financial books. Ledgers where precision and the requirement for the absence of burrs were paramount.
