Ronseal Direct to Metal Paint is a water-based coating designed for metal surfaces, capable of being applied directly to rust without a primer. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use, it requires minimal surface preparation and offers a quick recoat time. The paint provides a durable finish with long-term protection, and is available in Gloss, Satin, and Matt formulations. Coverage is approximately 8 m² per litre, with a typical 2–3 coat system for maximum protection. The product supports brush, roller, or sprayer application and is available in 250 ml, 750 ml, and 2.5 L sizes. It is designed to be compatible with bare metal as well as common metals and other substrates, with a low VOC level.

Usage and prep

Before painting, ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free from dirt, dust, and grease. The paint is compatible with bare metal, cast iron, galvanised steel, aluminium, stainless steel, wood, and PVC, and can be applied by brush, roller, or sprayer. It dries to a showerproof state in about 30 minutes, with a recoat time of 2–4 hours between coats. A typical application uses 2–3 coats to achieve maximum protection, and the product offers long-lasting performance with up to 15 years of durability.
