How to Use Ronseal Ultimate Protection Decking Oil

# Preparation

Before applying the oil, ensure the decking is completely dry and the temperature is above 10°C. Here's how to prepare your deck:

- Untreated, Weathered Decking: Use Ronseal Decking Restorer to bring back the natural colour of untreated wood. This will create a sound base for the oil to adhere to effectively.

- Previously Treated Decking: Clean the surface with Ronseal Decking Cleaner to remove dust, grease, oil, mildew, and algae. If there are any loose patches or peeling coatings, these should be removed to avoid a patchy finish. For contrasting colour applications, use the Ronseal Decking Stripper to take the surface back to bare wood.

- New Wood: New decking usually has a waterproof protection that must be removed. Scrub the surface with Ronseal Decking Cleaner, rinse thoroughly with clean water (ideally using a pressure washer), and leave to dry fully. Check for water beading; if it beads, further cleaning may be required.

# Application

Begin by shaking the can thoroughly. Pour the oil into a suitable container, dip in a brush or applicator pad, and test the colour on a hidden patch of wood. Start in a corner and apply along the length of the boards, working on 3-4 boards at a time to prevent overlap marks. Two coats are required, allowing four hours for drying between coats. After 24 hours, your deck will be ready for use.

Aftercare

Regular maintenance is crucial in keeping your deck looking its best. Clean the decking frequently using a stiff brush to remove dirt, grime, and other contaminants. For minor repairs, simply sand down the damaged area and apply a coat of the oil to restore its appearance.
