Its straightforward design suits children developing their skills, while the gearing, hydraulic brakes and wide tyres also give more confident riders plenty to work with.Scott uses a 6061 aluminium frame with custom tubing specifically designed around 24-inch wheels. Aluminium construction helps keep the bike manageable for younger riders, while the junior-specific sizing means the frame and components are better proportioned for smaller bodies.Up front, the Scale 400 uses a rigid fork rather than suspension. It's also made from 6061 aluminium, keeping the front end straightforward and avoiding the additional weight and complexity of a suspension fork. For younger riders, that can make the bike easier to handle while still being suitable for paths, tracks and less demanding off-road trails.The Shimano-based 1x8-speed drivetrain keeps gear selection simple. A Shimano RevoShift SL-RV400 shifter allows riders to move through the gears using a twist-style control, with a display making it easier to see which gear they've selected.A Shimano Tourney RD-TX800 rear derailleur works with a SunRace 11-34T 8-speed cassette, providing a useful spread of gears for changing terrain. The single 30-tooth chainring removes the need for a front derailleur, so young riders only have one shifter to think about. A double chainring cover also helps protect the drivetrain and rider.Tektro hydraulic disc brakes are fitted front and rear.
