Its 26-inch wheels make it a step towards a full-sized mountain bike, while child-specific components help keep the fit and controls appropriate for younger riders. The 6061 aluminium frame uses custom tubing to balance low weight with the durability needed for regular riding. Combined with the aluminium rigid fork, this helps keep overall bike weight down to a claimed 10.5kg. A lighter bike is easier for a young rider to accelerate, manoeuvre and control, particularly when climbing or navigating tighter trails.Rather than adding the weight and complexity of a suspension fork, Scott has fitted a rigid 6061 aluminium fork. This keeps the front end simple and helps make pedalling more efficient on smoother trails, cycle paths and everyday rides.Shimano provides a straightforward 1x8-speed drivetrain. The Tourney RD-M3020 rear derailleur is paired with an SL-RV400 Revo shifter, allowing younger riders to select gears using a simple twist-style control. With no front derailleur to think about, there's only one shifter to operate. An 11-40T Shimano HG400 cassette provides a broad range of gears, including useful lower ratios for tackling climbs. A single 32-tooth chainring and short 140mm Prowheel alloy cranks complete the setup, with the shorter crank length better proportioned for younger riders.Tektro HD-M276 hydraulic disc brakes provide dependable braking with 160mm rotors front and rear. Importantly for a junior bike, the brake levers use a short-reach design that makes them easier for smaller hands to reach and operate comfortably. The 26-inch alloy wheels are fitted with Kenda Booster 2.2-inch tyres. Their mountain bike tread provides grip for riding on woodland trails, gravel and other loose surfaces, while the generous width adds useful cushioning and stability.A 580mm alloy riser handlebar is paired with a 50mm stem, giving young riders a manageable cockpit for controlling the bike. The finishing kit also includes an alloy seatpost and Syncros Future Pro saddle. At 10.5kg, the Scale 600 avoids making a junior bike unnecessarily heavy. Combined with simple 1x gearing, hydraulic brakes and a rigid fork, this makes it a practical option for younger riders progressing beyond smaller children's bikes and looking to explore trails, paths and longer family rides.
