ORIGIN: Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) is a plant (herb) in the mint family. It is native to south-central Europe, the Mediterranean region and Asia but nowadays it is cultivated worldwide. In the past it was initially cultivated near bee hives as it attracts honey bees. It has since been appreciated for its traditional uses and characteristics. ABOUT: Our Melissa tea has mild, refreshing, minty undertones with a hint of lemon – bear in mind that dried Melissa (Lemon Balm) is nowhere near a lemony flavour like in a lemon tea as the drying process makes it lose some of its aroma. BENEFITS: Lemon balm is a popular herb to make a nutritious herbal tea as it contains bioactive compounds such as polyphenols and flavonoids. It is also a source of minerals. USES: Enjoy on its own or with honey or sugar. Brew, cool down and add some ice cubes for a nice iced tea. Mix with other herbs like peppermint, chamomile. You can even use it in cooking – to add hints of mint to your dishes. BREWING: Allow 1-1½ teaspoons per cup. Pour the freshly boiled water onto the leaves. Steeping time: 5 to 10 minutes. The brewing time and water temperature can be adjusted based on personal preferences.
