The Hashira pendant light resembles a traditional Japanese rice paper lantern in design, but its lampshade is made of fabric rather than paper. The fabric is stretched over a metal frame, whose struts are visible through the fabric, giving the light a graphic effect. The pendant light owes its name to its shape, as Hashira is the Japanese word for column. The Hashira series of lights was designed by the design company Norm Architects. Founded in 2008, the design studio works primarily in the fields of residential architecture, commercial interior design, art direction and graphics. Its deliberately chosen name, Norm, refers to the importance of standards and traditions in the fields of architecture and aesthetics. The designs of this studio result in timeless and durable products.

The cylindrical shape, matt textile surface and graphic pattern are particularly effective when the light is switched on – together they create an atmosphere of balance and harmony.
