GUBI Semi pendant light, Ø 47 cm, anthracite

The Semi pendant in Ø47 Gloss Anthracite Grey is a distinctive lamp that consists of two quarter-circles with their backs against each other. Semi was designed in 1968 as a product of the creative partnership between Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup. It was manufactured in response to the soft and organic shapes of the so-called Cosy Era that dominated the Danish design landscape at the time. Bonderup and Thorup both wanted to manufacture a lamp that offered clean, sharp lines and a geometric shape. Their design was entered into a competition at the Royal Danish Academy of Architecture, where it won first prize. The pendant became hugely successful in the 1980s, becoming the best-selling Danish design at one point. It even achieved international recognition that elevated its status to iconic.
