A CHARDONNAY WITH TEXTURE AND DEPTH: Where many whites offer freshness and little else, Alicia builds in layers. It shows aromatic power, balance and persistence, with the volume that comes from time on the lees. A Somontano Chardonnay with presence. FROM FINCA MONTE ALICIA IN EL GRADO: A 2 hectare vineyard on the hills of El Grado with free draining sandy loam soils. East to west rows limit sun for slow ripening. A blend of 95% Chardonnay with 5% Riesling, added for freshness, complexity and ageing. FIVE MONTHS ON THE LEES, PART IN NEW OAK: Picked in mid to late August at around 10°C, the grapes are macerated in the press for 10 hours at 8°C. The wine rests on its lees for five months, in stainless steel and in two new 225 litre French oak barrels. A FAMILY OF SOMONTANO VINE GROWERS: Bodega Otto Bestué has records of the family buying plots in Enate as far back as 1640. The Otto and Bestué estates came together when Lorenzo Otto Calvo married Alicia Bestué Montes, and the family runs the winery. ORCHARD FRUIT, PASTRY & TOASTED NUTS: Greenish yellow, with aromas of fennel, apple and peach, plus pastry and nutty notes from the lees. The palate is full and fresh, lifted by bright acidity. Serve at 9 to 12°C with rice dishes, fish or light meats.
